Wendy Clements, City Arborist
Mission
The Forestry Division is committed to providing quality tree care and improving Gillette’s urban forest to enhance the health, safety, environmental, economic, and social benefits for the citizens, businesses, and visitors of our community.
Summary
The Forestry Division maintains over 8,200 trees within the City’s 40 parks, 5 Boulevards of Trees, City facilities, buildings, and rights of way throughout the streets and roads of Gillette. Forestry’s experienced and knowledgeable staff receive ongoing training to stay current and utilize the best management practices and provide the highest quality care for Gillette’s urban forest.
The City Arborist has established a tree care plan to plant, trim, remove, fertilize, and treat trees on a regular maintenance rotation. The division routinely reviews trees for hazards, disease, pests, and overall health, as well as trims to reduce sight distance issues at intersections, clearance of signs, streets, and alleyways for public safety. The Arborist collaborates with engineers and contractors on planning and development projects to ensure diversity and longevity for the City’s tree inventory.
The Forestry Division is responsible for the annual Arbor Day Celebration, Tree City USA designation, Christmas TreeCycling program, Memorial Tree program, City Tree Inventory, securing grants, tree assessments and recommendations, working with volunteers, providing education to the public, schools, and other organizations in the community.
